Many people start thinking about backing up their computer after their computer already crashed. This happened to two close friends of mine. The thing is you just don't know when your computer would crash.
I have over five thousand pictures, two hundred movies, six thousand emails, three thousand songs, game files, documents, school work and various random but important things on my computer. I cannot afford to lose that data. In fact, I got very lucky with it. Back in January, I bought a 500gb western digital external hard drive and I decided to back up my system simply because I could. Bam! Two days later my computer caught a virus and I was forced to reformat my hard drive. Had I not backed up my data, I would have lost data more valuable than my computer itself.
You can back up data using various tools. The very least you can do is drag and drop important data from your computer onto a flash drive and store that. The problem with that is that you have to keep track of the changes that you make. There are various software tools out there that help solve that problem.
If you have Windows Vista, you can use the included software to do that for you. Simply press "Start" and search "backup and restore" and you'll get to the tool you need. With this tool, you can schedule your computer to backup once, daily, weekly or monthly onto an external hard drive, CD, DVD or even over a network.
